Modernising Legacy Systems
It’s not uncommon for organisations to develop core systems and proceed to sweat the asset(s) to extract the maximum possible value; indeed, this is a valid strategy we have seen many times over. However, the ever-shifting technology landscape (and concerns such as performance and data security) inevitably forces successful organisations running legacy core systems to some version of modernisation.
Further, the sprint towards modern solutions in market makes it harder to find resources adept at managing these antiquated systems. Lack of documentation is common, turning internal resources into “key person” risks. Ultimately, the cost of upkeep for these older tech stacks weighs heavier than investing in modern infrastructure, and organisations who wait too long will feel the pain of that decision in some form.
